Alternative singer songwriter Haley Pate’s music is earnest. It fits elements of folk, electronic, indie and experimental music like mosaics into songs that are simultaneously visceral and analytical, that highlight the conflict between well thought out explanation and deepest instinct. On a bed of textured guitar and synth instrumentals, her voice shines through, ruminating and hypothesizing about what it is to be human. She creates fables that excavate and unearth hidden and mysterious emotions and urges, resolving agonizing questions with even more questions.
Starting out writing rambling compositions on a child size nylon string guitar, she evolved to experimenting with alien tones and electronic sounds and began fusing together songs that collect fragments of adrianne lenker’s distinctive songwriting, bjork’s glitchy arrangements, weyes blood’s gigantic chamber pop, and Arthur Russell’s off-kilter cello creations on its journey to create something new.
Currently in the process of recording her debut album, which consists of songs written over the course of her first three years of college, she is crafting a work that is filled with challenge and hurt, but also fantasy, wonder and the joy in new and ever changing experiences.
